  • Puerto Princesa: Honda Bay (Day 2)

No Puerto Princesa experience is complete without visiting at least one island in Honda Bay. One can  easily arrange an island hopping tour at their hotel in which breakfast and lunch are already provided.

Pandan Island: Powdery white sand beach, friendly locals, exquisite food, snorkeling with newfound friends. What more could you ask for on a perfect sunny day? Pandan Island is aptly named for its abundance of pandan trees. It is the largest of the islands in Honda Bay.

The island has a mini market area selling fresh seafoods. Lunch is already provided as part of the tour package, but you can always opt to buy the freshest catch of the day and have them cook it for you for a fee. You can also grab a shake which would complement the summer heat perfectly.

Luli Island: Luli Island is actually a sandbar that sinks and rises with the tide. The name comes from the words "lulubog" which means "submerge/sink" (during hight tide) and "lilitaw" which means "float/rise" (during low tide). Visiting the place during lowtide is highly recommended.

Our tour package only included Pandan Island and Luli Island, so we had to get back to the town proper after visiting the sandbar.

Of course, no day is perfect without a sumptuous dinner. We had ours at Kinabuchs. Conveniently located near our hotel with great food at reasonable prices. And the crocodile sisig was a novel experience for me. In all honesty, this restaurant alone is justification enough to come back to Puerto Princesa. And up to this day, I still find myself randomly thinking about their crispy pata (I am not kidding).
