city of thieves

I've been wandering the bombarded streets of Leningrad, Russia since last night, and I've been to unfamiliar territories, namely Kirov, Neva, and Berezovka. And now I'm making my way to Novoye Koshkino. Did I forget to mention that my fictitious voyage is set in World War 2 during the Nazi's siege of Leningrad?

I started reading David Benioff's City of Thieves last night and I have to admit that during the first few chapters of the book, I already got hooked. The novel's like a surprising cup of history, fiction, satire, humor, savagery, and absurdity (in a good way) all brewed up together for us to delight in the taste of a good read.

UPDATE: this book just made it into my 'favorites' shelf!
